Shinichi Yoshimura, MD, PhD
President, The Asia Pacific Stroke Conference 2025
Professor and Chair, Department of Neurosurgery
Hyogo Medical University
It is with great honor that I undertake the role of chairing the distinguished APSC 2025. We have chosen “Advanced Stroke Care: Global and Local Challenges” as our theme. As the field of stroke care rapidly evolves, it is our goal to offer opportunities to acquire cutting-edge information from top global experts. Additionally, I recognize that there are unique challenges specific to various Asia-Pacific countries. We are eager to share these issues and discuss strategies to address them.
Before the commencement of the conference, there are a few important announcements I wish to share with you all.
Firstly, this year’s conference is proudly hosted by the Japan Stroke Society and organized by our team at Hyogo Medical University. I extend my deepest thanks to the members of the Asia-Pacific Stroke Organization (APSO) for their invaluable guidance and cooperation in managing the conference and creating the program.
We have opted for a hybrid format for this event. While we aim for face-to-face discussions on-site, we understand that some young healthcare professionals may only be able to participate online. Moreover, from the perspective of accessing lectures from leading global experts, we are committed to maximizing the benefits of this hybrid system.
The conference venue will be the Kobe Campus of Hyogo Medical University, located on Port Island. Please note that our university also has a Nishinomiya Campus (where our affiliated hospital is situated); ensure you come to the correct location. For those traveling to Port Island, if coming from Kansai International Airport, you would take a bus to Kobe-Sannomiya Station and then transfer to the monorail. For those arriving at Kobe Airport, direct monorail service is available.
Kobe is a renowned tourist destination, bustling with visitors. The area around Sannomiya offers many opportunities for shopping and dining, and Motomachi features a lively Chinatown. If you wish to venture further, Osaka is hosting the World Expo 2025 (EXPO 2025) during our conference period—a delightful addition to your visit.
Lastly, as September remains quite warm in Japan, casual attire is recommended; neckties are not necessary. Also, as it is typhoon season, please submit a prerecorded presentation. This ensures that your presentation can be delivered on your behalf should you be unable to attend in person.
Our team is dedicated to making this conference a valuable and enjoyable experience filled with learning and networking opportunities. I look forward to meeting you in Kobe.
Dr N Venketasubramanian Ramani
President, Asia Pacific Stroke Organisation
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the Asia Pacific Stroke Conference 2025, to be held in the Kobe Campus of the famous Hyogo Medical University in the beautiful city of Kobe, Japan, from 13 to 15 September 2025. With the theme ‘Advanced Stroke Care: Global and Local Challenges’, the conference will expound the great progress made in recent years in stroke management, looking at global developments but translated to explore the local issues that affect clinical practice.
Stroke is a major cause of death and disability, especially in the Asia Pacific region, home to more than 60% of the world’s population. Our many countries are in various stages of economic development, with those in economic transition bearing a particularly high burden of non-communicable diseases including stroke.
The Asia Pacific Stroke Organisation (APSO) was established in 2009 with the merger of the Asia Stroke Forum and Asia Pacific Stroke Association. We have grown to have 20 member societies, coming from almost all countries in our region. Our objectives include the promotion of continuing education activities that we feel will translate to improvements in health service and particularly stroke care.
It is to this end that we have held the Asia Pacific Stroke Conferences in various cities in the Asia Pacific region every year since our inception. We are overjoyed and grateful to once again work with the Japan Stroke Society, who have come forward to organise APSC 2025 after a very successful APSC in 2012. The APSO Executive Committee sincerely thanks the hard-working Organising Committee ably led by Professor Shinichi Yoshimura for all the tremendous efforts made in putting together this conference. Attendees can be assured of a superb conference, with high quality presentations that will meaningfully impact clinical practice. You will also enjoy the beauty of Kobe, and experience the soft charm and heartfelt warmth of our Japanese hosts, while you meet colleagues and friends from all over the region.
I look forward to meeting you in Kobe, and to welcome you to APSC 2025.
